helloo ! ive been wanting to ask if you have any specific tips or things to focus on while writing characters with DID ! im not a system myself but psychology in general has been a topic that ive always been interested in and want to depict it to the best of my ability + i love your art and wish you the best ^^

Good question!

Writing about DID/OSDD is incredibly difficult- even I a system probably couldn’t do it, but I can give you some advice regardless. Obviously saying “research” is expected, but finding good research on it is hard. As always I recommend as a starter for understanding the fundamentals of the disorder : “The Haunted Self: Structural Dissociation and Treatment of Chronic Traumatization” just look that up and I’m sure you can find it on the internet archive or docdriod. As a rule of thumb don’t trust system tiktok, tumblr, carrds, or any personal account to get the majority of your information from just because there’s an incredible amount of misinformation (of course there’s plenty others on there who probably know what they are talking about, but I’d always recommend using credible peer reviewed sources.)

With the research disclaimer thing out of the way here’s a few points:

-It’s a trauma based disorder, everything is structured around trauma. Not just a singular trauma but repeated emotional, physical, and typically sexual trauma that is experienced under the age of 10 (You don’t need all three, just a lot of systems experience a mix of trauma) To write DID/OSDD right you should be able to write child traumatization accurately and be comfortable with writing it.

-There is a vast amount of different experiences with DID/OSDD. There are varying levels of amnesia, alter presentations, system structures etc. not all systems use plural terms, have names for alters, or have much personality differentiation between alters. The experience of a Osdd1a system will be different to a DID system, so you’d probably want to look into the specifics of those differences and stick to one type of system.

-Try to avoid misconceptions and DID tropes in media. The most obvious one I can think of is “the evil alter” trope, there’s quite a lot of demonization of the disorder so you have to be critical when viewing media depicting it (fuck the split movie).

-unless it’s apart of a character arc avoid the uncritical idea that alters are just their source. it’s healthy for them to branch out and expand from their baseline purpose and identity.

As for things I’d like to see in DID/OSDD rep it’d be:

-representing extreme denial

-loss of time

-source separation would be cool

-fusion and dormancy being mentioned

A lot of media hyper focuses on Alters when that is only one aspect of system hood. I think I’d be cool to look at the other symptoms.

But overall, it would be a really hard task to write a system especially without being one. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’s easy to fall into misrepresentation even if it’s well meaning (it’s easy to do that even if a person is a system, that’s why I’m too scared to write it) If you are going to do it, do a very thorough amount of research before you develop an idea of a character. I know I sound really upset at the idea, I’m not I do really like the idea of representation- but DID/OSDD is such a stigmatized disorder that you have to be so so so careful not to add onto the stigma. I do believe it’s possible to do it right though! I wish you luck and thank you for the compliment.

The recent Chappell Roan thing is why I absolutely hate the lack of political literacy in this country. Big-name celebrities think they're really cooking when they say "well Kamala still supports blowing up Palestinian babies because she won't cut ties with Israel, so therefore I'm not voting for her and you shouldn't either! Both her and Trump suck so I'm not voting/voting third party!"

Like it or not, Israel is an ALLY of the United States. We CAN'T just cut ties with them unless it's a long drawn-out process, and even then it's probably NEVER going to happen. This is basic shit we learned in social studies, holy shit!

Trump would be so much fucking worse for everyone involved, including Palestine, and not voting or voting third party is pretty much just handing your vote over to Trump due to how voting WORKS in a two-party system dictated by the fucked up electoral college.

This was a long ramble and you've probably gotten similar asks the last few months like this, but fuck, I just have to get this off my chest, and the most recent event with her was like the straw that broke the camel's back. Celebs in general need to shut the fuck up about politics unless they are actually partaking in activism instead of this virtue-signaling bullshit.

The two things that really stuck out to me and pissed me off about that live/video was she 1. accused Democrats (she said "the left" but was clearly in context talking about the Democrats) for "transphobic policy" (also genocidal, equally silly) and it was SUCH a groundless lie, such a baseless, stupid, uninformed, silly lie. It'd be like saying "yes the right is bad! but Kamala Harris says she wants to shoot a pony every day of her Presidency and I can't support that!" And to be a Queer artist who's whole thing is centering Queer art, particularly drag who's got a young maybe not very informed queer fan base who's made talking about trans rights your main political thing to just lie about the nature of the threat to trans rights and trans lives at this moment is fucking awful and downright criminal.

Listen right now Republicans are aggressively attacking Democrats on trans rights. Trump went after Harris at their debate for "trans surgeries for illegal aliens in prison!" Republicans are attacking Tim Walz as "tampon Tim" for the idea that he supports trans male students having access to tampons (and other crazy transphobic attacks on him) Republicans are centering transphobia as a main campaign issue, anyone who gives a fuck about trans people in this nation should know Trump and Creepy Vance in charge of the federal government? is the nightmare. You can't claim to care about trans people or be "centering" them and not be doing all you can to stop Republicans at the ballot box this November. And both siding it and saying bullshit that somehow it will be just as bad if Democrats win is not stopping Republicans no matter how you personally vote.

The Second thing in her video that really annoyed me was she said she was voting for Harris but then had a whole word salad about how everyone needed to make up their own minds about who would be best. Basically saying that while she was voting for Harris, a vote for Trump was a reasonable conclusion people could reach. Again if you truly care about the issues she says she cares about, no, you can't vote for Trump. And again to use your platform to push "both sides" is to throw the very people you claim are your brand under the bus in the worst way.

I don't like to throw people under the bus for their family, Tim Walz' brother is a MAGA lunatic for example, but Chappell Roan talked about Republican family that "loved her" and I can't help but wonder if she was thinking of her Republican State Rep uncle, Darin Chappell. Again people can't control family members and I'm not asking anyone to come out and attack their family in public. I'm just wondering if her views on Republicans and finding a middle ground and "they still love me" is colored by Uncle Darin and not understanding he might love her and be proud of her but he still walks into the Missouri state capital and votes for abortion bans and transphobia.

to move onto the meat of your ask which I think is less about Roan in particular and more generalized about a certain type of celebrity and GenZ very on-line types. On the whole Israel-Palestine thing, I think most of the people posting about it know very little or know a lot of misinformation, you every see people boldly posting "I don't need to know everything to know right from wrong!" you run into that a lot. And I'd say yes, you do need to know a lot to comment on a complex multi generational ethnic-political conflict with many state and non-state actors.

Last night JD Vance and Tim Walz had their debate and every time there was an issue, housing costs, medical costs, gun violence, inflation, Vance would move it around to how if we just deported all the immigrants the issue would be fixed, no more drugs no more gun violence, housing would be cheap, just get rid of the people I don't like.

And I see a lot of that with Israel, "Palestine is a climate issue!" "Queer as in Free Palestine!" etc where if we just get rid of Israel it'll all be fixed. Which of course connects to long standing antisemitic ideas about Jews running the world, people happily sub in the word "Israel" or "Zionist" and then repeat the same old racism thats followed the Jews around for 1,000 years.

So long and short I think most people talking about Palestine don't know enough to talk about it, but what's worse don't really care about Palestine at all

I'm reminded here of Trump's "Deal of the Century". Oh? you don't remember it? shocker, in January 2020 Trump released a "peace plan" drawn up with no Palestinians involved, where Israel would be allowed to annex everything in the West Bank it would want, the Jordan Vally cutting Palestine off from Jordan and totally encircling it with Israel. The West Bank would be Swiss cheesed up into little pockets connected by tunnels or overpasses but with Israeli territory running through it everywhere. The Palestinians said "no!" and then Netanyahu claimed that Trump had green lit Israel to annex the land it wanted even without Palestinian agreement to the plan and without giving the Palestinians anything. There was some confusion and thankfully that didn't happen. We may never know the fully story of what stopped it, but I do think Trump agreed to annexing much of the West Bank, but pulled back under pressure from Gulf Arab Oil states who later in 2020 made peace with Israel in the Abraham Accords in an effort to stop Netanyahu's annexation plans.

any ways to point out, 1. Palestine was on the edge of annexation the end of the dream of Palestinian statehood in any meaningful sense, and where were the protests? the encampments? etc? it never comes up, 4 years ago, and all the people who live and breath this stuff never mention it? 2. We have reason to believe Trump signed off on a far-right government of Israel annexing much of the West Bank, his "peace plan" abandoned the outlines that American Presidents since Bill Clinton set forward for getting a Palestinian state on 95+% of the West Bank in favor of "what does the Israeli right want?" and again no one is talking about it in the context of this election, we know what he'll do, because he's done it before.

but again its not really about the Palestinians, its not about building a Palestinian state, its "get rid of Israel" and then what? what happens to the 9 million people who live in Israel? and people don't have a realistic answer, because its a political fantasy that if they just do X everything will magically get better, even on totally unrelated issues.

Why do you like Killer?

Well first off my fixation on the guy started because i got curious about his story while watching Gacha React videos and kept coming across conflicting accounts. And then I realized, wow no one really knows anything but this silly guy.

So I did my own research. And I realized, wow. He is severely misunderstood. This poor man has been through hell and is struggling with himself, lost in his disorientation, losing his grasp on his reality and himself due to outside factors. And the way he has responded and reacted to his trauma is not pretty or even easy to understand.

He hates what he’s become so much, and it isn’t pretty what he’s been made into against his will—yet he struggles to tell if it was truly against his will or not. He’s so lost he struggles to even realize that he was manipulated and coerced, unable to differentiate between memory and reality anymore.

And yet he also refuses to admit that he was ever any type of victim—instead reclaiming control by leaning into the identity he has formed, finding security with the belief that this is something he chose rather than something that was done to him.

His emotional states (or capacity for emotion), mindset, personality, belief system—those things change in response to his circumstances and the world around him, reflected in his soul’s Stages. Parts of him are still stuck in the past, while he’s trying to outrun it.

And he struggles to integrate it all into a sense of a coherent self—which only gets worse when others are wanting things from him, too, and won’t take no for an answer. He’s always wanting someone to help him make sense of things, to ‘save’ him, and yet he doesn’t trust anyone and doesn’t trust himself even more.

And killer doesn’t even see ‘no’ as a valid answer either. Learned helplessness in Stage 1, believing choice is a privilege constantly out of reach in Stage 2. Maybe not even having a concept of choice or free will in Stage 4.

I would say more but tbh I think this post (and its later additions) said so much that I agree with already. I like that Killer is not in any sense of the word, a “perfect” victim. He has normalized a lot of what was done to him and tends to normalize it when done to others, as well. He tends to externalize his trauma quite a lot.

Other than that, by sharing everything I could find on his canon in various sites and apps like Tumblr or TikTok, I met and interacted with a lotta cool people. Made some pretty cool friends.

Even met my late girlfriend through Killer, who related quite a lot to Killer’s circumstances and felt seen by someone being able to see him the way she did—and she gave me the best months of my life.

Killer is very dear to me not only for the rep of how trauma can completely destroy or change a person not always for the best, the age old question of ‘can even the worst person change for the better?’, but also cuz of the people I met through him.

Oughhhh okay first of all, I am SO happy to see Bucktommy back on our screens and I WILL be mass reblogging things about them soon, fair warning! I took a bit after the ep to stop jumping up and down about how good it was, but then I came across the subject of this post and so first, to get it out of my system: a rant! It's not about the episode, probably not of any interest to most people, especially Bucktommy fans trying to protect their peace, so feel absolutely free to ignore this, I'll put it under a cut, I just have to get it out. I've been holding my tongue where bobs are concerned for the most part because I don't want to be mean/have a bunch of negativity on my blog/have any of them find and come after me like they're known to do, but idc rn.

So, there's this author I follow on insta, have followed for years, have read a few of her books and had the rest on my tbr. The ones I've read weren't mind-blowing or anything tbh, but for contemporary romances (not my usual genre) I had fun with them. What I really liked about her was that she is so outspoken about all of her books having bi characters: f/f and m/f. Bi4bi m/f, bi woman x straight man, bi woman x lesbian etc. I love to see bi rep and her efforts to make bi characters visible are great, I respected her for it and I found out last season, she's also a 911 fan! A Buck fan! Cool! She ships B*ddi3 but usually idc ship and let ship, I didn't think she was a Bucktommy hater.

That is, until tonight when I went on insta and saw her post. Bee cupcakes as the first pic, I went oh cute, for 911!! But then I scroll through the post and find this bingo card, the more I looked at it, the more I was like 😬 oh so she's a bob, huh? She only cares about Buck and his bisexuality if he's with E**ie? I didn't want to jump to conclusions, but then there's this in her stories (edits by me to highlight what I'm on about):

And I've blocked a LOT of blogs to try and avoid Tommy/Bucktommy hate so getting blindsided by this when I was in such a good mood enjoying our favorite guy's scene sucked. I literally felt sick about it for a while afterwards and I've decided to unfollow her and unhaul the books I own without reading more. It's not the first time I've stopped supporting an artist I was a fan of, granted this reasoning may seem dumb or petty to other people but I just can't get over it, I mean-

You're a romance author with 5 books published, I didn't think it was a stretch to assume you at least had some decent media literacy and appreciation for a good story/a sweet, queer, rom-com inspired ship. But you hate Tommy just because he's in the way of your ship? You champion bi characters, but will hate on the gay boyfriend of one who is breaking stereotypes and making people feel represented because you think his straight best friend would be a better match? Seriously?

And it's not only these two things, I looked her up on tw*tter, which I'm never usually on, but had logged into today to look at Lou's posts, and I found that she follows multiple people who I know to be particularly nasty Tommy haters/bobs. So. Yeah. I'm out of there, I just can't look at her the same anymore, not to be parasocial or whatever but she always seemed cool, I liked her, I wanted to support her work, I HAVE supported her work personally and as someone who works as a bookseller, I've pointed people to her books and sold them.

But now I just have a bad taste in my mouth. There has been SO much hate towards Tommy, Bucktommy, and worse, the real people who ship them, Lou, and even Oliver over the last few months, because it's constantly being stirred up by this kind of B*ddi3 shipper. I would feel sorry for them for how desperate and bitter they are if not for the fact that I simply cannot stand them anymore. They are miserable and determined to make Bucktommy shippers miserable, too.

I just don't get why people can't stay in their fandom lane and leave others alone?? Like, getting mad that Buck's ESTABLISHED BOYFRIEND and E**ie's FRIEND, WHO HE LIKES, was in one (1) scene, when it narratively made sense for him to be there to remind the ga of him, is pathetic. Tommy came to support E at the virtual birthday party of his estranged teenager, and make a heavy scene lighter and you're acting like he's some kind of monster. I can't even, I'm done!

I hope all the bestie boos will start to leave the fandom soon, when Tommy sticks around, because tbh they only care about one thing that's never going to happen and they don't even seem to have fun on their side of the "ship war". They're too busy being nasty all the time, can't talk about their ship without dragging ours down.

Anyway this rant is becoming more generalized than what I planned to say about that person and has already gotten sooo long, so I'm just going to post it to throw all my anger and frustration out there with it and then bury it with happy Bucktommy posts!! Sparks in the Workplace

Ikeda Jun wants nothing more than to graduate college and leave her job as Dynamight’s PR Rep. After one fateful interview, she’s left pretending to be his lover.

Based on my Kinktober Prompt “Hate Fucking”

I didn’t want this job. I wanted to go to school and work in a simple office. I live in a world dominated by heroes and villains. Which is why I needed to jump through some hoops to get the dream job I wanted. Until then, I would have to suffer being the official PR Representative for the most explosive hero in the industry, Dynamight.

My interview was simple and I was offered the job of the spot based on my quirk, Gentle Touch. My quirk is the ability to calm anyone’s psycho-sympathetic nervous system with a simple touch. Of course, I had my limitations such as it worked only if I was touching them the whole time and it only worked for 30 minutes per use on each person. They knew that my quirk would be a good look working the infamous Explosion Murder God, Bakugou Katsuki.

Simple to say, I hated him from the moment I started working with him. I quickly found out that my quirk works especially well on him and it pissed him off. So, he tried his best to make my life a living hell.

“Hey, ponytail!” Bakugou yells at me from his office. I look up from my computer to see him crook a finger in my direction, summoning me to his office. Usually he sends out his assistant to fetch me.

“Yes, sir!” I quickly stand and bow.

I found that calling him sir and other terms used for old men made him mad. While he is technically my senior, based on him being 5 years older, he didn’t take lightly to being called old. Oh man, the time I called him uncle lingered around in my head.

“Don’t smirk, Ponytail, you’re creepy.” He sneers at me.

“Okay, Senpai.” I teased, watching the fire light in his eyes. I could immediately smell the threat of nitroglycerin seeping from his palms. He knew I would use my quirk on him and that was enough to keep the explosions at bay. It also royally pissed him off.

“Quit it.” He growled out and slammed the door behind me.

“To what do I owe the pleasure of your attention?”

“Cut the shit, Ikeda.”

“So you do know my name.” I teased and leaned towards him from across the desk covered in papers.

“I should fire you” Bakugou crosses his arms and narrows his eyes at you. I’m used to these threats, his team wouldn’t allow it.

“Try it” I bite back.

“We have another interview tomorrow. Some hero podcast is interviewing that dammed Deku and I.” Of course they wanted Midoriya and Bakugou in the same room, they were known enemies turned best friends who fought all the time.

“What is the podcast name so I can do research?”

“The Talented Others.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me! That has to be one of the most disrespectful gossip channels they could find.” The Talented Others honestly, hated heroes. They hated the idea that with 98% of the population having quirks nobody should be special but heroes where. They believed that heroes were nothing more than overpaid TV Show actors.

“Believe me when I say I almost blew up the place.” Bakugou picked at his nails like he was impressed with his actions, I rolled my eyes at his behavior.

“Okay, so we need a game plan as to what we’re going to say and do. Do you have a print out of the questions?” I tried to remain professional with Bakugou at all times, but pissing him off was incredibly fun.

“Nope but you can handle all those hard questions.” His caramine eyes meet mine and I feel stuck in my seat for a second, gaping like a fish. This causes the brat to smirk at my actions. “Cat got your tongue?”

“Shut it,” I growl, “I can’t handle everything for you. You have to be a big boy at some point.” It’s my turn to smirk at him.

“Get back to work” He barks, I salute to him with two fingers and walk out the door.

I’m counting the minutes until 5 when I can get out of here. I’m constantly checking my phone because I have a date with Takeuchi Kazuo from accounting. With us being in separate departments there was no problem with us dating and there was no need to have someone sign an NDA as we both signed one when we started here.

Takeuchi is a sweet guy with bright eyes and dark hair that sits against his pale skin. He was my first ally here in the office since Bakugou had a bad habit of turning everyone against me. He wanted me to quit. Takeuchi encouraged me to stay here and keep working since it would be good for my future. When I told him I was taking night classes at the university to become a therapist he was ecstatic to meet someone who held their future in such high regards.

I was so excited to go on a date with him.

“What’re you smiling at, twerp?” A voice whispers next to my ear. I squeak and drop my phone, it goes clattering on my desk. I curse and turn to find Bakugou leaning over me in his hero uniform.

He was back early from patrol.

“Nothing,” I hissed.

“You’re giggling like a schoolgirl.” He deadpans.

“I have a date with a guy in the firm.” You rolled your shoulder back and met his narrowed gaze.

“Hmph.” Is all Bakugou says as he walks away from you and into the elevator. You shrug off the weird encounter and continue with your work.

5 comes and goes and you leave to get ready for the date. The walk to your apartment isn’t a long one so you’re home and ready within an hour. You decide to put on a little more makeup and dress in a warm brown sweater, a black velvet skirt, and leggings with black flats. You do your hair in a cuter style.

Then you’re off!

You get the ramen shop after changing trains a couple of times and walking a significant distance. You’re early by 5 minutes to your agreed time, 7:30. So, you go ahead and find a seat with a good view of the door so you can spot Takeuchi when he comes inside.

He never does. Around 8 I order food and send him a text. I finish by 9 and text him again. Yet, I never hear another word for him. I’m fighting back tears because he was so nice, so thoughtful. He had bought me flowers and coffee just a few days before. He had texted me earlier to make sure we were still on. By 9:30 I was a sobbing mess in the bathroom. That’s when I felt my phone buzz.

I don’t respond because if I do, I will cuss at him. I want him to still see me as a respectful girl, so I leave him on read. He couldn’t be bothered with responding to me so I wouldn’t respond to him.

I pay for my food and leave the restaurant. I take the trains back home and walk straight pass my apartment. If I’m going to get blown off, I might as well get laid at the bar! There is one just a block from the hero agency. So, I go there. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall but it’s nice enough that I trust the people there.

The bar is cozy, dark, and has an easy going atmosphere. I decide to go inside and fuck the first guy who hits on me. I’m desperate at this point considering Takeuchi stole my heart and broke it, the mother fucker. Honestly, it doesn’ take long for a man to come and offer a drink.

“Hey, want a drink?” He’s cute, like an American movie star.

“From you? Sure.” I purr.

I let him order a girly fruity drink for me and we talk for a while. He’s a great conversationalist and everything is going exactly to my plan. I know if I act just dumb enough he’ll invite me to his place and I can end this dry spell. However, at one point he acts terrified and hurriedly excuses himself to the bathroom and never comes back.

Fuck.

I down my drink and head to the tiny dancefloor and dance my little broken heart out. I throw my hands up in the air and gyrate my hips to the beat of the music. I feel a hand snake around my waist and pull me against their hips. Whoever is dancing with me has the moves because they’re now guiding my movements against them. I'm gonna keep it 300: Once I realized that byler v mlvn (at least in canon) was never a competition of "ships" or even heteronormativity versus queer rep but a conversation about thematic points being made by the duffers, I ceased feeling any real doubt about the outcome of this segment of the intertwined character narratives.

Why? Because The Duffers (while notoriously mum about their plotlines and twists) are vocal as hell about what they value & what "lessons" they're trying to drive home.

With The Duffers (unlike a lot of TV writers today) its "find the thematic line and you find the endgame plot." That's literally it. And tbh, even if I was someone who couldn't stand byler for whatever reason, from a narrative theme perspective, its pretty clear that

tracks more with The Duffers value system than

Like. I don't even need to do more mental work than that to understand whats happening with this part of the story, because after 7 entire years of watching the rest of the show, its clear they'e written Mike and El into the same corner that's broken up every other dysfunctional relationship in Stranger Things, from Stncy to Joyce and Bob: a lack of common interest and a lack of common goals.

When you look at that, and combine it w/ any knowledge of the—

Disagreeing with my own post

I put up this post two nights ago and while I think I was right about the first part regarding Eddie's relationship issues, some tags from @elibad (thank you!) have made me rethink the second part regarding the actual outcome on the show. I'm going to clarify my position a bit before debunking it, though, because it brings up issues I have...feelings about.

Fwiw, I didn't mean that Christopher would be taken permanently, I meant that Eddie would agree to let his grandparents take him maybe for a summer so that Eddie could have a break and take some time to figure himself out. I am EXTREMELY against any situation where Buck takes Chris, especially in any kind of government-enforced sense (which would be BS anyway) while Eddie is still alive because there is such a terrible history in the US of brown kids (which Christopher is even if Gavin isn't) being taken from brown parents at the drop of a hat and either being given to Nice White families or just dumped into a shitty foster care system. So, again, what I should have made clear is that, in my theory, Eddie would realize that he's not in a good place and would let his parents (NOT Buck) take Chris temporarily just to give him some time to breathe. It takes a village, you know.

All that said, no, actually, that would be a terrible outcome. It would defeat the purpose of 6 seasons of Buck being integrated into Eddie and Christopher's lives and would also inevitably punish Eddie more than it would help him. I also think that narratively, anything that reinforces the heteronormative nuclear family bias that Helena has and that she has forced onto Eddie would conflict with the narrative the show is trying to present. Helena being proven right about Christopher's placement, even temporarily, might do that. Plus...taking a kid from a single parent is also bad rep and just shouldn't happen.

Bottom line, Eddie is a phenomenal father. Despite Eddie's struggles with trauma from war and the death of his wife, Christopher is loved, appreciated, and supported to a much higher degree than not only most disabled children but also most children, period. End of. Just because Eddie is going through something right now does not mean that he is unfit in any way, and it truly horrifies me to think that I implied that at all. I do think that, because of his own issues, the speed with which Eddie integrates the women he dates into his life with Christopher is exacerbating Christopher's abandonment issues and that should be addressed, but it's not something that's hurting Chris to the degree that removal is necessary or appropriate.

What Eddie needs is support. And he has it. From Buck. Who was basically framed as his wife in 7x07 (which is, ironically, why people who are determined to ship Buck with someone else are ALSO the ones suggesting that Buck has the right and motivation to kick Eddie in the metaphorical nuts for lying - they view Buck as a spouse even if they think they don't because Tim is brilliant at framing and narrative). So the best outcome of this situation is for Eddie to put Shannon to bed and stand up for the decision he has made for Christopher against his parents, even if that alienates them. And for Buck to back Eddie to the hilt when it matters. And for Christopher to stay exactly where he is. Moving forward, I'm going to be starting any future speculation from this premise.

Ch 37: Undead + Unluck

This cover is super sweet and the little details like the stubby crayon and the way the socks gather are so wholesome! I love the blending of genres, too. Little Fuuko has drawn a sports manga scene from You-Me and has a magical girl on her shorts, and the cover itself is a time travel.

Space soccer club invasion arc sounds like a real page-turner, tbh. I'd read it.

The panels we're shown all match up with something that happened during the Acks battle. ⬇️

They point out several times that To You, From Me has 101 volumes, which corresponds with the tablet that keeps track of penalties.

Something that bugs me here is that Juiz gives them instructions without explaining why doing those things is important.

I wish she would give them more context like what she thinks they might find. It feels like she's still keeping some of the important info to herself.

Andy concludes that they'll need to make a manga to get into Shueisha HQ. Which is just an absolutely delightful thing to happen after the heavy Unbelievable Arc.

Fuuko has every fanfic author's dilemma:

Andy mentions Osamu Tezuka, the "Father of Manga," whose famous works were created in the 1950s-80s. One of his later works was Black Jack, and the main character has some similarities with Rip.

Black Jack also has some chapters that have been changed or removed from publication, much like You-Me.

Tezuka used what he called a "Star System," which was his rotating cast of recurring characters that appear in works in his universe, similar to looping in UU using the same character types for each loop.

Andy tells Fuuko to write what she knows best.

Fuuko says she's especially interested in learning more about herself through writing the story, so that she'll be able to summon even greater strokes of Unluck, which takes us back to Chapter 4, when Andy was trying to do the exact same thing:

What's the point of Andy's big dream to have a wicked sick death? What's the point of him staying with Fuuko? Unless, of course, he's developed feelings for her!

Andy gathers a team of helpers (except Shen, whose power is too dangerous for this project, but it's nice to see him speaking Chinese) and says he'll do the storyboards. Mico even brings Fuuko a set of robot arms to help her draw more quickly. Tatiana gives her some interesting advice on how to use them...

"Imagine looking down at yourself from above." BECAUSE THAT'S HOW FUUKO'S GONNA WRITE THE STORY! She's looking down at her own life and putting it on paper. She's writing what she knows!

There's even a panel of her drawing her manga!

Having Fuuko write her own manga is fun in a Bakuman kind of way, but I also think it's a comment from the God/Author. This is just one of the many ways the God/Author is making them suffer and toil, and of course the author feels that this is a real test of character and strength. They're making the characters suffer as they have.

It also gives the IRL author Tozuka a chance to throw in some light gags about the manga business and let Andy wear a fun hat.

The Shueisha rep tells her a lot of very specific feedback that's probably the same kind of things Tozuka heard when he submitted Undead Unluck! The manga Fuuko submitted, with its wilder-looking Andy, matches up pretty well with the one-shot that started UU. I hope she left out the gropey parts.

Anyway, the manga impressed the Shueisha rep enough that she agreed to let Fuuko see the original manuscript for To You, From Me.

Now we know why we've been hearing so much about this manga, starting from page 1, chapter 1 where Fuuko is holding it while standing on the bridge over the trains. It's not just an "artifact" in the story. An ARTIFACT was used to write it!

No idea. “I ain’t worried ‘bout it.” Jun chuckled as he continued to type away. “I’m at my best when I got something I’m wanting to steal.” Jun added on as he managed to break into the system to see what all “Blackmail” he could use on the commander. Stumbling across many images one would NOT like to see… especially if that person is one of you’re higher in command officers… “What.The.Actual.Fuck” Kat said as she continued to look at the images before looking away, as poor yn had to look away from the screen, feeling fairly uncomfortable at what’s currently displayed on the screen. It’s not that yn liked the commander much, it was just so uncomfortable. Jun just starts laughing like a maniac, on the verge of falling out of his chair as he tried gasping for air. Carter was in complete shock. Not knowing what to say or react.. placing his hands on top of his head like he was in pure distress.. Emile on the other hand was trying to get a look at what was exactly there, only able to get small glances with Jorge just standing there at complete lost for words.. Kat managing to come back to her senses to try erasing whatever file Jun broke into. “Wait wait wait” Jun manages to say after a while, stopping Kat from proceeding what she was doing, “What is it Jun?” Kat ask’s slightly annoyed at Jun. “We need to keep those photos.”, “Why would we? Please tell me you have a genuine reason on why you would go this low? If it’s pure bullshit, I’m gonna walk my happy trappy ass to ONI and request for a mission of sort..” yn said before starting towards the door. “Honestly I’m not sure. Maybe if there was something we really wanted to do or go he’ll have no choice but to say yes and not no.” Jun shrugged his shoulders before getting out a flash drive out and connecting it to the “Borrowed” UNSC laptop and saving the file to the drive and removing it before letting Kat continue on with erasing Jun’s trace of breaking into such file. Six ends up shaking his head as he also starts heading to the door to walk out right behind yn. “I honestly don’t know what to say or do anymore.” Yn says as six catches up to them. “Don’t blame you.. are you down to head to the gym and do max reps today?” Six asks as he sees both marines and ODST going past them. “I suppose we could, but do know I’m not caring your ass back to your room lieutenant, like last time.” Yn snickers they end up walking a bit faster than six to the general direction of the gym. “Wow you didn’t have to go that far, that’s not fair you know!”

Writers block be real, and a pain too when it’s really bad on top of being really busy to even have any proper spare time to use for writing and really only used for sleep, at that even. I plan for this “Noble Team; House of Memories” to be a short mini series to see how I like to write little series and such. I ain’t gonna even try to give an estimate on when I’ll update this little mini series, hopefully soon, but then again it all plays a role on if I ain’t too busy nor too tired to. (Though I’m always tired, let’s just say, when I’m not blacking/passing out tired). Yeah, so... I've got a bit to say about Mikoto. Because I have one very firm bias that I feel I should make clear. Even though I think I've made it pretty obvious previously. I'm just doing this to make it as clear as possible. I know it may be considered strange to let your biases and personal dislikes be known but I think being clear about it is the only right way to move forward for me.

I personally dislike the three alter theory/interpretation of Mikoto's character. I've discussed this both privately and publicly before. I don't think I need to defend an opinion of mine or spend time debunking this interpretation. Simply because I don't go around kicking other people's sandcastles for fun.

But does that mean I don't enjoy seeing it? Hm well not exactly I don’t care for it but it’s not like I have an aversion to it. Yet at the same time it's something that weighs on me. I find it annoying, but I think if I articulated why people wouldn’t understand where I’m coming from.

In essence when I do see that stuff it comes off as though saying only certain types of systems are valid. That the validity of dissociative rep is dependent on the amount of alters present. Something I personally find regressive and unfair.

Especially in discussions regarding Mikoto. Because it can come off as people only finding him easier or more difficult to forgive depending on how many alters are within his system. Something I have every right to be annoyed by. It just comes off as an extension of pick me or I'm one of the good ones behavior.

Going not all systems are bad, there are many with more than two alters who don’t act like that and only having two isn’t that common. The only thing common about it is how much of a stereotype it is to present it that way in media. Like it's gotten to the point it's become a cliché. Of course, one is evil if there’s only two but if there’s three or more one of them is super chill/nonverbal. Individuals with DID that have more than two personalities always have a real chill one.

If there’s only two, they have to be divided into good and bad because that’s how all media does it. So, it makes sense for me to assume that’s how it is here unless there are more alters. This is just how this goes. It’s just the common perception. I didn’t make those stigmatizing media representations or create these common misconceptions. However, I rightfully can’t ignore these stereotypes exist, right?

Even if I’m applying them on the media simply due to the idea that DID is present it’s not my fault it’s the media's fault for having a character with DID in this context. They must know and be aware of the stereotypes around this concept in certain media genres. Says this strawman I made up while discussing a media made for the sole purpose of testing biases which include stereotypes and common misconceptions.

It's impressive how close and far from the point this scarecrow I've created is. Luckily, no one really says things like this.

Do you know how it could be better rep and a subversion of this stereotype? If there were more personalities instead of two. Something that would be another thing not a subversion of the common portrayal of people with two personalities within media. So, a way to subvert this stereotype is erasing this representation all together. Noted.

Alright, I now fundamentally understand how little acceptance people with dissociative identity disorder who only have two personalities have overall. The best way to subvert stereotypes around dissociative identity disorder is by not representing certain individuals that have that disorder. Thank you for elaborating.

This is a remarkably similar mindset to people not wanting to represent individuals with autism who have low empathy because we're not all like that. I, myself, indulge in empathetic gestures from time to time. Okay, cool that isn't an experience this person has had, and they are not like that good do they want a cookie?

I'm not left-handed but you don't see me replicating Christianity during the nineteenth century or beating people into right-handedness over it now do you? Just because one's experiences are different does not mean they are special, no one's special in the sense of being above anyone else. However, everyone is special in the sense they are themselves and there is no one else who could be that. It's that simple.

One's experiences hold value, but those experiences should not be used to devalue the lives of others.

So, basically when I see this mindset towards having two personalities and feel this way. I end up thinking-

I'd wonder if many people would be comfortable saying that to someone with DID that only has two personalities. Sadly, I know, for a fact, some people would be. When I came out saying that Yuno may have dissociative personality disorder no one really harped on her for it.

When people began saying Amane may have it, I didn't see any backlash about bad rep there. In both those instances there wasn't really any noticeable pushback about Amane and her counsel or Yuno and her harem. However, the guy representing people with two personalities (to our knowledge currently because who knows maybe it will be three I don't believe it will and haven't seen any convincing evidence it could be but fuck it we ball in ambiguity) really got clobbered huh.

Real fun…to be constantly reminded somehow, someway, there’s always someone doing x mental disorder wrong.

Even still most times I can sit back and go well it’s fine. If people are having fun and becoming informed on the disorder, it's no big deal. As long as they’re not stigmatizing it further that’s fine. However recently I've begun to feel that’s a careless way of thinking in this situation.

Because it is stigmatizing it for people it presents in that way for. I wonder frequently, why does it seem more acceptable the more personalities that are present. What’s wrong with having two? Why does it have to be triple, quadruple, sextuple or over a hundred for it to appear valid to some? Why is it when it’s two one must be evil and the other has to be good?

I logically know why the stereotype formed of course. It formed because the one fronting most of the time deals with communicating more frequently and due to that knows how to navigate certain situations or stressors better. So, they seem nicer or more patient than the one who is usually back seating and doesn’t talk unless absolutely necessary.

So, the other can come off rude, blunt, or evil when truth is someone or multiple someone's has done something to stress this person out to the point of bringing out a personality that more than likely would rather not be out anyhow. However, now they have to be. Something Es does in Mikoto’s voice drama despite being told multiple times to stop and being expressly told what behavior stressed them out and how to avoid it several times. Different personalities or not this is a perfectly fine situation to get upset or wind up dissociating in.

Brief experiences of dissociation are quite common. They can happen to us all sometimes. For example, during periods of intense stress or when we’re very tired. Some people also find that using drugs like cannabis can cause feelings of derealisation and depersonalisation.

Dissociation is also a normal way of coping during traumatic events. For example, some people may dissociate while experiencing war, kidnapping or during a medical emergency. In situations we can't physically get away from, dissociation can protect us from distress."

Yet it feels like within the Milgram fandom that understanding of DID is completely lacking. It’s difficult to get into the logistics of plurality discrimination when people are reluctant to even accept characters with DID within the material at all without decrying bad rep backwards and forwards. As people attempt to go wait it’s not the bad representation, he’s not the bad type he’s this which is good and realistic.

Also, people with two personalities in DID are rare and overrepresented negatively but still overrepresented. However, people with three are barely represented at all. Yet when they are there’s nuance even with the stereotypes that come with that representation. Not every personality within that system is forced to fit into a black and white binary of good and evil or pitted against one another there’s cohesion.

It’s rarely the personalities always fighting or at odds with each other. Because there is more variety and with more variety naturally comes nuance. So, on a lot of levels I can understand why some would think this framing is helpful. However, it’s also harmful.

It’s hurtful to overlook titles such as MeMe and Double I’m (MeMe), in favor of highlighting one instance in which three colors are used. Plus this way of thinking has led to things like this being said,

A completely unsurprising turn of events from my perspective. Given I've seen the audience basically in every way that they can reiterate, “People with DID and only two personalities do not deserve to exist.”

So, if it’s only two all the way through and people's opinion towards that sort of presentation of this disorder doesn't change then Mikoto’s pretty fucked. Which sucks... Because there are a lot of people with dissociative identity disorder who only have two personalities in the world. It is incredibly disappointing that the very concept has been stigmatized to the point that people would rather not have those sorts of experiences exist in media or at all.

So stigmatized that many people believe that advocating against such representation is a good thing or politically correct. Also if I fucking see Split mentioned one more time I'm gonna lose my got damn mind. Using examples of bad representation to advocate for no representation is stupid. Just because badly cooked food exists doesn't suddenly mean people shouldn't have the right to fucking food.

MADISON – A bipartisan group of legislators is reviving a bill that would eliminate charging minors for prostitution by clarifying children cannot legally consent to sex with an adult.

Lawmakers are hoping that by codifying any child under the age of 18 will not be prosecuted, they will be encouraged to come forward as victims and report their abusers.

"We need to treat these kids as sexual assault victims," said Sen. Jesse James, R-Altoona, who is a police officer in the Village of Cadott. "Otherwise we are feeding the narrative of the sex trafficker that they are the only ones who can protect them."

The "safe harbor" bill was introduced in 2017 and again in 2019 and 2021, but has never gained approval by the full Legislature. Thirty other states and Washington D.C. have enacted similar legislation.

The new legislation is being sponsored by James, Rep. Jill Billings, D-LaCrosse, and Rep. Joel Kitchens, R-Sturgeon Bay.

Billings has been working on the legislation since the beginning. This time, she's cautiously optimistic there is legislative support but said with the turnover of the Legislature, there needs to be reeducation on the issue.

"Many people don't understand the face of human trafficking," Billings said.

Some elected officials have raised concerns passage of safe harbor legislation would legalize prostitution. Politifact has investigated such claims and given them a "Pants on Fire" rating.

Others have suggested the best thing to do is arrest children and have them work off the crime, Billings said.

"Children who are trafficked are dealing with sexual trauma and sometimes drug abuse," Billings said. "I argue there is no other crime where we charge an individual who has the abuse rendered against them."

Since 2015, sex trafficking has been categorized as child abuse and law enforcement agents have been allowed to remove a child from the abusive environment via child protection laws. The act also requires cases to be referred to child welfare agencies instead of going through the court system.

But the possibility of children being criminally charged for prostitution remains.

Sex trafficking affects urban, rural, and tribal communities, with all 72 counties reporting cases. The state received an ‘F’ on its annual child and youth sex trafficking report card from Shared Hope International and ranked 33rd overall nationwide.

James said he has asked the Department of Justice how many children in Wisconsin are being prosecuted for their own abuse. He doesn't believe it is many, which is why he said he wants to get this law passed, so there is clarity.

Claudine O’Leary, a Milwaukee youth advocate, said in Milwaukee County there is an informal agreement not to prosecute children, but that could change if a new district attorney were elected.

O'Leary said some of the resistance to passing a safe harbor law comes from advocates worrying there are not enough community services to protect children in danger.

"The idea of having the ability to charge a minor in your back pocket and put them in the court system that is required to give them services is something some folks in smaller counties want to hold onto," O'Leary said. "It's not that people want the child charged, it's that there isn't faith in what will happen if they don't charge."

James said he would like to see victimized children work with child protective services to identify their abusers and hopefully double the number of arrests for traffickers in Wisconsin.

In 2000, Congress passed the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, protecting and assisting human trafficking victims while penalizing their abusers more severely, but it has not solved the issue.

According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline’s 2021 Annual Report, 2,078 tips were reported for sex trafficking cases involving minors nationwide. The average age of a child victim is 12-14 years old.
